The Bowens are moving into a new house, but it doesn’t take them long to realize that it is haunted by sinister forces; then, their six-year-old daughter vanishes… A completely redundant remake in 3D of the 1982 horror classic that never gets scary enough and wastes some of its potential. What it lacks in creativity, it makes up for in its attempt to offer a likable family (often a rare thing in modern horror films) and the same kind of eerie atmosphere and spectacular effects as the original. Jared Harris is fun as a veteran poltergeist hunter.
