HEROES COME IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES… EVEN RECTANGLES.
In a small town where rumors persist that cardboard-wearing subterranean trolls are kidnapping children, a pest exterminator strikes a deal to kill all the boxtrolls. A 3D stop-motion adventure from the studio that brought us Coraline (2009), retaining that darkly comical look. Featuring a story about a town that’s obsessed with cheese, the movie and its sense of humor is reminiscent of the “Wallace and Gromit” shorts from Aardman. Well paced and funny, even though the storytelling often relies on familiar ideas. Gets a shot in the arm from Ben Kingsley’s performance as the diabolical Snatcher.
2014-U.S. Animated. 96 min. Color. Directed by Graham Annable, Anthony Stacchi. Novel: Alan Snow (“Here Be Monsters!”). Voices of Ben Kingsley (Archibald Snatcher), Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Eggs), Elle Fanning (Winnie Portley-Rind), Jared Harris, Toni Collette, Nick Frost… Tracy Morgan, Simon Pegg.
Trivia: Barry Humphries was allegedly considered for the part of Snatcher.
