The sci-fi series that changed showrunners more often than you change underwear started out promisingly, with an original concept by Saving Private Ryan writer Robert Rodat and executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, that imagined Earth being invaded by hostile aliens, and regular people, including Noah Wyle’s teacher, having to take up arms. Over the seasons, a conflict between these civilians and the military brewed; tolerance was tested when another alien race joined forces with humans. Wyle was an everyman we could root for, but the rest of the cast was hopelessly bland, with few exceptions. The series gained just enough fans to be renewed for several seasons, but never seemed to be going anywhere, and most ideas were lifted from better shows or movies.
