Conviction

AN EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY OF HOW FAR WE GO TO FIGHT FOR OUR FAMILY.

convictionIn the early 1980s, Kenny Waters (Sam Rockwell) is sentenced to prison for a murder; his sister (Hilary Swank) knows that heā€™s innocent and goes to law school to be able to clear him in court. Based on a real-life case, this is a hell of a story whose potential is never quite met by the filmmakers. Flashbacks are meant to give us a better chance to build emotions for Swank and Rockwellā€™s characters, who are not always easy to like. The actors are very convincing and keep the movie afloat. The mediocre treatment is a problem; perhaps a more flamboyant filmmaker would have found ways to make this more interesting and moving.
