COCKTAILS FIRST. QUESTIONS LATER.

Unemployed actors Mike and Trent (Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn) are trying to find jobs and girls in Los Angeles… but Mike is still hopelessly hurting from a breakup. Doug Liman’s breakthrough film also introduced its two stars to a wider audience. Favreau clearly poured all his own experiences into the script and captures an L.A. vibe, complete with its clubs, slang and a penchant for 1940s swing music that was enjoying a revival at the time. Overrated by some; there is nothing special about the depiction of the single scene or Favreau’s heartache. But its energy, atmosphere and the lead performances compensate.
