The Good Lie

MIRACLES ARE MADE BY PEOPLE WHO REFUSE TO STOP BELIEVING.

thegoodlieAfter surviving horrors of war and dangerous wildlife in Sudan, a group of children reach a refugee camp in Kenya; 13 years later they are relocated to the United States. Many thousands of children were displaced and/or orphaned during Sudan’s latest civil war. This Hollywoodized but still moving tale shows what some of the children had to endure and contrasts that with the absurdities and luxuries of Western society. Not as gripping and hard-hitting as the real deal, but still competent, with convincing performances, including Ger Duany (a former “lost boy” himself) and Emmanuel Jal (a former child soldier).

2014-U.S. 110 min. Color. Directed byĀ Philippe Falardeau. Cast: Reese Witherspoon (Carrie Davis), Arnold Oceng (Mamere), Ger Duany (Jeremiah), Emmanuel Jal (Paul), Corey Stoll, Kuoth Wiel.

Trivia:Ā Co-produced by Ron Howard. The documentary Lost Boys of Sudan (2003) also followed two Sudanese boys’ journey from a refugee camp to America.
