The Last Tycoon

HE HAS THE POWER TO MAKE ANYONE’S DREAM COME TRUEā€¦ EXCEPT HIS OWN.Ā

lasttycoonIn the 1930s, Monroe Stahr (Robert De Niro) is the youngest and most successful studio executive in Hollywood, but he becomes obsessed with a womanā€¦ F. Scott Fitzgerald never finished the novel before his death, but Harold Pinter adds his own touch to this story, which partly mirrors that of legendary real-life studio boss Irving Thalberg. The depiction of Stahr at work and how he coddles his angst-ridden movie stars, fights off money-obsessed board members and negotiates with hostile unions is engrossingā€¦ but his love concerns are less interesting, and that’s supposed to be the heart of the film. Still, a great, sprawling cast.
