Everything Must Go

LOST IS A GOOD PLACE TO FIND YOURSELF.

everythingmustgoWhen alcoholic salesman Nick Halsey (Will Ferrell) is fired, and learns that his wife is leaving him and has left all his belongings on the front lawn, he sets up residence right there. This indie comedy-drama, more inspired by than based on a Raymond Carver story, was directed by a first-timer and has a simple premise. We follow the salesman as he gets to know his neighbors and deals with his problems. Ferrell makes us laugh and he also finds the right tone of tragedy, but it’s ultimately a narrow premise with predictable relationships. As a character study the film lacks depth.

2011-U.S. 97 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Dan Rush. Short Story: Raymond Carver (“Why Don’t You Dance”). Cast: Will Ferrell (Nick Halsey), Rebecca Hall (Samantha), Laura Dern (Delilah), Michael Peña, Christopher CJ Wallace, Stephen Root.
