The Trip to Italy

ANYONE FOR SECONDS?

triptoitalySteve Coogan and Rob Brydon agree to do another tour of nice restaurants for The Observer – this time in Italy. The follow-up to The Trip (2010) has these fictional versions of Coogan and Brydon doing sort of their own 19th century Grand Tour. As expected, the sunbaked locations are beautiful and the food is mouth-watering. We’re served historical vistas, poetry and middle-aged, male angst as the two leads struggle with their personal lives and careers. Fans will eat it up, even though it’s just more of the same. Loaded with imitations, which is sometimes funny, sometimes a bit tiring.

2014-Britain. Made for TV. 172 min. Color. Directed by Michael Winterbottom. Cast: Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon.

Trivia: Originally shown in six episodes. Edited to a feature film, which was released the same year. Followed by The Trip to Spain (2017).
