THE HUNTER BECOMES THE HUNTED.
In 1983, Anchorage cop Jack Halcombe (Nicolas Cage) takes a prostitute (Vanessa Hudgens) seriously and soon realizes that the vicious man she once ran away from could lie behind several disappearances in Alaska. This directing debut, a story of how local police tracked down a serial killer who enjoyed hunting his victims, takes perhaps too many liberties in the second half. The intention is to generate excitement, but what we get instead is clichés. Still, the Alaska views are appropriately chilly and Cage and John Cusack are good enough in a cat-and-mouse game.
