Treme

tremeFollowing the success of The Wire (2002-2008), writers David Simon and Eric Overmyer reunited with parts of the cast and a similar perspective, only now the stories revolved around the Treme neighborhood in New Orleans. Beginning right after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and ending shortly after Barack Obama’s White House victory in 2008, the show portrayed how the disaster struck working-class people but left corruption within the political system and the NOPD intact. The lifeblood of the show was a love for the free spirit of New Orleans, Mardi Gras and the city’s vibrant music scene (with several of its legendary stars making appearances). Authentic, a great cast, but perhaps a little too sprawling, with many characters less than engaging. Intelligent and emotional, but hard to get under the skin.
