Real Steel

CHAMPIONS AREN’T BORN. THEY’RE MADE.

realsteelIn the near future, when robots have replaced humans in boxing, Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) loses his champ but gets an unexpected new chance at winning fights ā€“ thanks to his 11-year-old son (Dakota Goyo). More inspired by than based on Richard Matheson’s sci-fi story, this is a strictly formulaic but skillfully produced movie for family crowds, featuring likable and warm performances by Jackman and young Goyo as their characters slowly begin to function as a team. The robots are effectively designed, and the climactic bout has one cheering for team Kenton as if their man of steel is Rocky Balboa.
