Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer Boris Karloff

MORE GHOULISH GLEE THAN WHEN THEY MET FRANKENSTEIN!

abbottcostellokillerborisWhen an attorney is murdered in a hotel, his body is discovered by the bellboy (Lou Costello) who’s drawn into the hunt for the killers along with the hotel detective (Bud Abbott). One of the last genuinely entertaining Abbott & Costello comedies exposes our bumbling heroes to a conspiracy featuring a turban-wearing mysticist. He’s played by Boris Karloff who doesn’t get to do much in the film, in spite of the prominent billing. The constant bodies that keep falling out of closets play a greater part and lead to a few funny scenes, even though we recognize one of the routines from an earlier movie.

1949-U.S. 84 min. B/W. Directed by Charles Barton. Cast: Bud Abbott (Casey Edwards), Lou Costello (Freddie Phillips), Boris Karloff (Swami Talpur), Lenore Aubert, Gar Moore, Donna Martell.

Trivia: Allegedly first intended as a vehicle for Bob Hope.

Quote: “You’re going to commit suicide if it’s the last thing you do!” (Karloff trying to hypnotize Costello)
