The Hypnotist

HYPTONIST_POSTER_70X100-2.inddWhen a family is murdered, Stockholm cop Joona Linna (Tobias Zilliacus) gets in touch with a hypnotist (Mikael Persbrandt) who might be able to reach through to the sole survivor of the attack. Uncharacteristically enough, director Lasse Hallström’s first Swedish film in 25 years is a thriller, depicting a wintry Stockholm that looks like it only exists in myths. Clearly, this is an offer for fans of the “Millennium” trilogy. Unfortunately, in spite of a chilling opening and a nail-biting climax on an icy lake, this is unremarkable and sometimes illogical fodder.

2012-Sweden. 122 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Lasse Hallström. Novel: Lars Kepler. Cast: Tobias Zilliacus (Joona Linna), Mikael Persbrandt (Erik Maria Bark), Lena Olin (Simone Bark), Helena af Sandeberg, Oscar Pettersson, Anna Azcaráte… Eva Melander.

Trivia: Original title: Hypnotisören.
