This prequel to Death Race (2010) explains how those deadly prison games came about, and also explores the origins of the mysterious Frankenstein driver. Like the first movie, this one also pretends to say something important about how money and ratings control a thirst for blood, but what you’re actually getting is simply a series of violent, clunky and clanky chases and races. Sean Bean is a dull, soccer-obsessed villain; Luke Goss a poor man’s Jason Statham.
