Burke and Hare

NO JOB TOO SMALL. NO BODY TOO BIG. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

In 1827, two con artists (Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis) learn that there’s money in delivering corpses to an unscrupulous doctor (Tom Wilkinson); so what if they have to help a lot of people die a little faster? John Landis’s first film in 12 years is a return to the kind of horror-comedy (An American Werewolf in London) that made him a household name. The story is based on real-life events and they’re treated with charming irreverence; silly and cheerful, the movie never reaches any heights, but benefits from Scottish locations and an enthusiastic cast, including comedy legend Ronnie Corbett in a small role.

2010-Britain. 91 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by John Landis. Cast: Simon Pegg (William Burke), Andy Serkis (William Hare), Isla Fisher (Ginny Hawkins), Tom Wilkinson, Jessica Hynes, Bill Bailey… Tim Curry, Ronnie Corbett, Christopher Lee. Cameos: Michael Winner, Ray Harryhausen, Costa-Gavras.

Trivia: The story was previously filmed in Britain as a horror drama in 1972.
