Another legal series from David E. Kelley, this time focusing on a recently fired patent lawyer (Kathy Bates) who formed a small law firm in a shoe store in one of Cincinnati’s worst districts. As usual, stories revolved around cases that were either just offbeat or touching on the political and societal issues of the day. The lawyers’ personal lives played a great part, and as the show changed in season two and more or less turned into another Boston Legal, friendship became a key theme. Always entertaining, but not really one of Kelley’s best efforts. Still, it did provide Bates with an excellent chance to shine as a worn-out attorney who found new challenges among the downtrodden.
