Going the Distance

A COMEDY ABOUT MEETING EACH OTHER HALFWAY.

Erin (Drew Barrymore) hooks up with Garrett (Justin Long) in New York City, but as their relationship becomes increasingly serious they need to deal with the fact that her life is in San Francisco. Nanette Burstein is actually a documentary filmmaker and this comedy does offer a romance that remains credible throughout, even though it also adds a few clownish ingredients (staples of the genre, some might say) like Long’s best buddies. The script handles its long-distance problem in a way that doesn’t betray the lead characters. The two stars are likable and help us invest emotionally in their relationship.

2010-U.S. 102 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Nanette Burstein. Cast: Drew Barrymore (Erin Langford), Justin Long (Garrett Scully), Charlie Day (Dan), Jason Sudeikis, Christina Applegate, Ron Livingston.
