Bottle Shock

BASED ON A TRUE STORY OF LOVE, VICTORY AND FERMENTATION.

bottleshockIn 1976, British wine enthusiast Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman) flies to Napa Valley ahead of a competition that he intends to mount in Paris; he’s startled to learn that the screw-cap wines are in fact quite… excellent. The true story of how American wines for the first time trumped the French in a blind-taste test gets a sunny and light-hearted treatment. Rickman is perfect as the skeptic and the rest of the cast are also attractive, although the Barretts and their plight are not portrayed with the kind of passion and humor that would have made this a truly intoxicating experience.

2008-U.S. 108 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Randall Miller. Cast: Bill Pullman (Jim Barrett), Alan Rickman (Steven Spurrier), Chris Pine (Bo Barrett), Freddy Rodriguez, Rachael Taylor, Dennis Farina… Bradley Whitford.
