ONE WARRIOR RULED THE SKY.
I’m sure this was meant to be the ultimate biography on Baron Manfred von Richthofen, known as the Red Baron, the most famous fighter pilot in World War I. But the filmmakers seem to have actively made an effort to make this look like a standard Hollywood bio. The results are similar to Pearl Harbor (2001), with lots of CGI action (that works fairly well), clichés, actors that fail to engage our emotions and a love story that falls flat. All the German actors speak English for no reason, which hurts their performances.
2008-Germany-Britain. 106 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Nikolai Müllerschön. Cast: Matthias Schweighöfer (Manfred von Richthofen), Lena Headey (Käte Otersdorf), Joseph Fiennes (Roy Brown), Til Schweiger, Volker Bruch, Jan Vlasák.
Trivia: Original title: Der rote Baron.
