Scrubs

This very likable single-camera sitcom reminded me a lot about Parker Lewis Can’t Lose (1990-1993), a show with a similar sense of quirky humor. The setting was a teaching hospital and over the years we followed a group of medical students evolve into fine doctors. They included best friends JD and Turk (Zach Braff, Donald Faison) whose intense bromance was on a level that girlfriends, and even Turk’s future wife Carla (Judy Reyes), had to make room for it in their lives. Braff’s boyish charm made him a star, but the show also benefited immensely from John C. McGinley’s hilariously aggressive performance as JD’s mentor. Fresh, funny and inventive for years, but the show eventually deteriorated, ending in a stale final season that introduced new, dull characters.

2001-2010:U.S. Made for TV. 181 episodes. Color. Created byĀ Bill Lawrence. Cast: Zach Braff (John ā€œJDā€ Dorian), Sarah Chalke (Elliot Reid), Donald Faison (Christopher Turk), John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes (01-09), Ken Jenkins, Neil Flynn (01-09), Eliza Coupe (09-10), Kerry BishĆ© (09-10), Michael Mosley (09-10), Dave Franco (09-10).
