Gone With the Pope

… YOU’RE EITHER IN, OR YOU’RE IN THE WAY!

Fresh out of prison, Paul (Duke Mitchell) rounds up a few buddies and together they embark on a boat trip to Italy where he tells them that he has a plan to kidnap the Pope for ransom. Shot in 1976 but never completed, a rough cut of this movie was found in the late director’s garage and saved by Oscar-winning editor Bob Murawski. Often hilariously inept and cheap (but fun), the film has several bizarre scenes (one involving a hugely obese woman), wonderfully bad acting and a completely misplaced Catholic-guilt theme.

2010-U.S. 83 min. Color. Produced, written and directed byĀ Duke Mitchell. Cast: Duke Mitchell (Paul), Peter Milo (Peter), Jim LoBianco (Luke), Lorenzo Dardado, Jeanne Hibbard.

Trivia: Executive-produced by Murawski and Sylvester Stallone’s son, Sage.
