ARE YOU THE EXCEPTION… OR THE RULE?
The popular self-improvement book gets its movie adaptation, but it’s better than one might expect. All the clichés and obvious lessons of the book are intact, but the writers have made a good job applying them on a number of characters, including a naive young woman who learns a thing or two about the men she dates, a married couple going through an infidelity crisis, and another couple considering whether or not marriage is a necessary next step. No surprises, but director Ken Kwapis knows how to make these lightweight dramas work along the lines of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005).
