Speed Racer (Emile Hirsch) is following in the footsteps of his famous brother, a race car driver who was killed on the track; when a powerful company approaches him with an offer, he discovers their dirty secret. I suppose the Wachowskis have a nostalgic relationship to the Japanese anime original from the 1960s, and their take on it has beautiful CGI visuals and impressive visual effects. Ambitious – but it’s also a long, boring movie with thoroughly uninvolving racing scenes.
