Into the Storm

A RELENTLESS LEADER IS THE GREATEST WEAPON OF WAR.

As World War II begins, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Brendan Gleeson) realizes that it might turn into the highlight of his life. The sequel to The Gathering Storm (2002) has a new director and cast, but writer Hugh Whitemore continues right where he left off, portraying Churchill’s strengths and flaws as a statesman as well as the nature of his relationship with his wife Clemmie. Always interesting and respectable, the film still doesn’t offer anything it didn’t cover the first time round. Good performances by the leads, but they tend to pale in comparison with some predecessors.

2009-Britain-U.S. Made for TV. 100 min. Color. Directed by Thaddeus O’Sullivan. Teleplay: Hugh Whitemore. Cast: Brendan Gleeson (Winston Churchill), Janet McTeer (Clemmie Churchill), Iain Glen (George VI), James D’Arcy, Bill Paterson, Len Cariou.
