Panic Room

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE SAFEST ROOM IN THE HOUSE.Ā

As widely reported, there are scared millionaires out there building safe rooms in their houses to keep bad guys out. That does sound like a good idea for another rehash of the Die Hard one-location concept, so Columbia Pictures have been kind enough to deliver a thriller where the main characters, a mother and her daughter, lock themselves up in a panic room after violent burglars have taken control of their brownstone. The Davids, Fincher and Koepp, likely looked to Hitchcock for this claustrophobic albeit conventional film; itā€™s very dark and tense. Jodie Foster is excellent but she deserves a more flamboyant villain than the one Forest Whitaker provides.Ā

2002-U.S. 112 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ David Fincher. Screenplay: David Koepp. Cast: Jodie Foster (Meg Altman), Forest Whitaker (Burnham), Jared Leto (Junior), Kristen Stewart (Sarah Altman), Dwight Yoakam, Ann Magnuson. Voice of Nicole Kidman.

Trivia: Kidman was originally attached as the star of the film, but had to bow out due to a knee injury.
