Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant), a hit man, is hired to assassinate the president of Russia (Ulrich Thomsen), but the mission turns out to be a trap. Another video game gets its cheap movie version, cheered only by the most fanatical of fans. The “hero” gets involved in a big conspiracy as well as with an annoying woman, but has no problem getting out of every dangerous situation. Olyphant is OK, although his character is silly and clichéd (and his enemies clearly won’t have a problem identifying him). Entertaining enough, but hollow and unimaginative.
2007-U.S. 93 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Xavier Gens. Cast: Timothy Olyphant (Agent 47), Dougray Scott (Mike Whittier), Olga Kurylenko (Nika Boronina), Robert Knepper, Ulrich Thomsen, Henry Ian Cusick.
Trivia: Vin Diesel was allegedly considered for the lead; he did get an executive-producer credit. When the studio ordered reshoots, the director was removed from the project. Followed by Hitman: Agent 47 (2015).
