Latigo Smith (James Garner), a runaway bridegroom, gets off the train at a small mining town only to end up in the middle of a rivalry between two families; one of them mistakes him for a feared gunfighter.Ā Burt Kennedy reunited with Garner, Jack Elam and Harry Morgan for another western spoof afterĀ Support Your Local SheriffĀ (1969); very entertaining, with a lively cast, including Garner as the laidback compulsive gambler and Elam as his dim-witted buddy who tries to convince the people of Purgatory that heās the gunfighter. The film is a bit too noisy and not as fresh as the original⦠but funny.
