Tristan + Isolde

LOVE CONQUERS ALL ā€“ EVEN MARRIAGE…

Some time after the fall of the Roman Empire, an Irish princess (Sophia Myles) and a British nobleman (James Franco) fall in love even though their elders are fighting over the future of Britain. You’d think that the director of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) would be perfect for this film, but the results are rather bland. One simply doesn’t care much whether the British tribes unite against the domineering Irish or not, and the central romance (so vital to the classic story) won’t have you in tears. Nicely shot, but this is no Braveheart.

2006-U.S. 126 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Kevin Reynolds. Cast: James Franco (Tristan), Sophia Myles (Isolde), Rufus Sewell (Marke), David Patrick O’Hara, Henry Cavill, JB Blanc… Mark Strong.

Trivia: Ridley Scott allegedly considered directing the film.
