A Chorus Line

As Zach (Michael Douglas), a famed choreographer, is interviewing a chorus line, his former girlfriend (Alyson Reed) tries to see him for the first time after their painful break-up. Michael Bennett’s popular Broadway musical gets the big-screen treatment by a director who proved to be better suited for spectacular biographies of great men. This version offended fans by adding new songs and making less effective changes. What we’re left with are a few engaging moments here and there, but as a whole it’s in dire need of real show-stoppers.

1985-U.S. 113 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Richard Attenborough. Screenplay: Arnold Schulman. Book: James Kirkwood, Jr., Nicholas Dante. Songs: Marvin Hamlisch, Edward Kleban (“What I Did for Love”, “One”, “Surprise, Surprise”). Editing: John Bloom. Cast: Michael Douglas (Zach), Terrence Mann (Larry), Alyson Reed (Cassie), Cameron English, Vicki Frederick, Audrey Landers.Ā

Trivia: Bennett was involved with the production at an early stage, but left due to creative differences.
