Flyboys

INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY.

In 1916, the U.S. has not yet joined the first World War, but several young Americans are being trained by the French to become fighter pilots. If you’re into both aviation history and Top Gun (1986) this film might be something for you. With help from model work and computer animation, the sense of what it must have been like to fly those planes is recreated. James Franco is fairly engaging in the lead and Jean Reno provides some authority, but is it possible to make a movie like this without all the clichés? Apparently not.

2006-U.S. 139 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Tony Bill. Cast: James Franco (Blaine Rawlings), Martin Henderson (Reed Cassidy), Jean Reno (Thenault), David Ellison, Jennifer Decker, Tyler Labine.
