Fever Pitch

Red Sox fan Ben Wrightman (Jimmy Fallon) starts dating successful businesswoman Lindsay Meeks (Drew Barrymore), but is initially reluctant to tell her just how big a deal baseball is to him. The Farrelly brothers’ remake of the 1997 British comedy changes sports and locations, but stays true to the tone and content of Nick Hornby’s novel. It’s something of a surprise to see such a family-friendly, sweet and mature film from the directors; Barrymore is effective and Fallon quite charming as the die-hard fan. Another positive ingredient is the dedicated portrayal of Boston and its favorite pastime.

2005-U.S. 101 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Peter Farrelly, Bobby Farrelly. Screenplay: Lowell Ganz, Babaloo Mandel. Novel: Nick Hornby. Cast: Drew Barrymore (Lindsay Meeks), Jimmy Fallon (Ben Wrightman), James B. Sikking (Doug Meeks), JoBeth Williams, Willie Garson, Evan Helmuth. Cameo: Stephen King.

Trivia: Co-produced by Barrymore.
