IN A WORLD THAT TOLD THEM HOW TO THINK, SHE SHOWED THEM HOW TO LIVE.
In 1953, new arts history teacher Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts) arrives at the prestigious Wellesley College in Massachusetts and tries to make her female students consider a career, not just marriage. A movie in the vein of Dead Poets SocietyĀ (1989), with the new teacher trying to change a conservative academic environment, but director Mike Newell fails to infuse his feminist drama with the kind of passion that Robertsās character wants to see in her students. Still, the young actors who play the girls are well worth a look.Ā
