The Kingdom

thekingdomIn the wake of a major terrorist attack in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with many U.S. casualties, the FBI secretly sends a team headed by Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx) to investigate. Director Peter Berg delivers an entertaining thriller (shot in the United Arab Emirates) that feels like an extended, juiced-up episode of CSI or 24; the story is uncomplicated even though it tries (and doesn’t really succeed) to show how complex the relationships are between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, and the royal family and the powerful extremists. It’s lightweight, but fairly exciting; the cast is game.
