SOMETIMES YOU FIND YOUR HEROES IN THE MOST UNLIKELY PLACES.
When young Steven Lidz’s (Nathan Watt) mother (Andie MacDowell) falls ill, he moves temporarily to his eccentric uncles, which becomes a point of concern to his father (John Turturro). Diane Keatonās first dramatic feature as director (after a documentary and a TV movie) is an autobiographical story based on author Franz Lidzā life; fans of My Life as a Dog (1985) will enjoy it. Focus lies on how the people a kid admires influence him in his adolescent years, how one of his uncles teaches him to be honest, adventurous and to never forget his heritage. Amusing and even a bit touching. Michael Richards plays the uncle like heās Kramer on Seinfeld.
