HE’S PUTTING THE “I” BACK IN TEAM.
Baseball star Stan Ross (Bernie Mac) comes out of retirement to play for his team again; he needs three more hits to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. This is the film where Bernie Mac proved to audiences that one should never underestimate his ability to carry a movie and make a character come alive; he’s very good as baseball’s most hated man whose comeback teaches him a few valuable, humbling things. He changes a little too fast and conveniently, and the formula is obvious, but the film is reasonably heartfelt. Angela Bassett completes the cast as Mac’s former lover.
