The Count of Monte Cristo

PREPARE FOR ADVENTURE. COUNT ON REVENGE.Ā

Some time in the early 19th century, French adventurer Edmond Dantes (Jim Caviezel) is wrongly imprisoned after being betrayed by a ā€œfriendā€; a decade later, he comes looking for revenge. This conventional movie version of the Alexandre Dumas classic was made by a director who doesnā€™t deserve his bad reputation. He makes sure the movie is handsome and entertaining, and includes a thrilling final duel. Having actors who know their stuff is also a big help. Caviezel avoids turning his hero into a dull clichĆ©; Guy Pearce makes us hate the bad guy, and thatā€™s all we should ask for.Ā

2002-U.S.-Britain-Ireland. 131 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Kevin Reynolds. Novel: Alexandre Dumas. Cast: Jim Caviezel (Edmond Dantes), Guy Pearce (Fernand Mondego), Richard Harris (AbbĆ© Faria), Dagmara Dominczyk, Michael Wincott, Luis GuzmĆ”n.
