THE PARTY THAT STARTED A REVOLUTION.
Booed at the Cannes film festival premiere, hailed as a masterpiece by influential critics such as Roger Ebert, Sofia Coppolaās film about Marie Antoinetteās life as the free-spending wife of Franceās King Louis XVIĀ tries to build a bridge to our time, playing out to a soundtrack with music by New Order, The Cure and others. The movie was shot at Versailles and considerable attention paid to the costumes and period details, but nothing much happens here and there seems to be no deeper meaning. The emperor is naked? Yes, but still worth a look.
