Gigli

MURDER. BLACKMAIL. TEMPTATION. REDEMPTION. IT’S BEEN A BUSY WEEK.¬†

Small-time hood Larry Gigli (Ben Affleck) is ordered to kidnap the retarded brother of a prosecutor; sexy Ricki (Jennifer Lopez) arrives to keep an eye on Larry. The stars took a lot of flak, but they are not the ones that make this notorious bomb of 2003 bad. It’s more a case of the actors being let down by a script that is alternately ridiculous, offensive, illogical and just plain stupid. It doesn’t help that Christopher Walken and Al Pacino demean themselves with showy, pointless cameos that are worse than the Affleck/Lopez combo.

2003-U.S. 124 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by Martin Brest. Cast: Jennifer Lopez (Ricki), Ben Affleck (Larry Gigli), Justin Bartha (Brian), Lainie Kazan, Al Pacino, Christopher Walken.

Trivia: Co-produced by Brest. Halle Berry was allegedly considered for the part of Ricki.

Razzie: Worst Picture, Director, Actor (Affleck), Actress (Lopez), Screenplay, Screen Couple (Affleck/Lopez).
