The Haunted Mansion

CHECK YOUR PULSE AT THE DOOR… IF YOU HAVE ONE.

Real estate agents Jim and Sara Evers (Eddie Murphy, Marsha Thomason) bring their kids to look at a creepy old mansion; it turns out to be haunted and its owner has special plans for Sara. Much like the same year’s Pirates of the Caribbean, this film was based on a theme park ride. Kids might take to it, even though some of the visual effects are a bit too intense for them. The film never gets too tiresome in spite of the hysterical tone, but don’t expect any big laughs. Terence Stamp is wasted, but Murphy is OK in the lead.

2003-U.S. 98 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Rob Minkoff. Cast: Eddie Murphy (Jim Evers), Terence Stamp (Ramsley), Wallace Shawn (Ezra), Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly, Nathaniel Parker.

Trivia: Anthony Hopkins was allegedly considered for the part of Ramsley.
