The Devil’s Eye

The Devil (Stig JƤrrel) has a stye in the eye, caused by the innocence of a vicarā€™s daughter (Bibi Andersson); he sends Don Juan (Jarl Kulle) to the Earth to seduce her. Well, who else could do such a bang-up job? This is Ingmar Bergman having a little fun the same year he made the outstanding The Virgin Spring. Itā€™s an amusing script about the naughty and the nice, what effect the sinful can have on the innocent; thereā€™s a few surprising turns as well. The director never liked this film, but it looks great and the cast is excellent. The suave Kulle is perfect as the worldā€™s greatest lover and JƤrrel is a lot of fun as a CEO-like Satan.Ā
