The Devil (Stig JƤrrel) has a stye in the eye, caused by the innocence of a vicarās daughter (Bibi Andersson); he sends Don Juan (Jarl Kulle) to the Earth to seduce her. Well, who else could do such a bang-up job? This is Ingmar Bergman having a little fun the same year he made the outstanding The Virgin Spring. Itās an amusing script about the naughty and the nice, what effect the sinful can have on the innocent; thereās a few surprising turns as well. The director never liked this film, but it looks great and the cast is excellent. The suave Kulle is perfect as the worldās greatest lover and JƤrrel is a lot of fun as a CEO-like Satan.Ā
