Live from Baghdad

THE GULF WAR, 1991. NO STORY IS WORTH DYING FOR ā€“ BUT THIS WAS THE STORY OF A LIFETIME.Ā

In 1990, CNN (then a fledgling cable news network) sends two producers (Michael Keaton, Helena Bonham Carter) to Baghdad to cover what isĀ turning into an upcoming war between Iraq and the U.S. The story of how CNN made the Gulf War into its own coming-out party is depicted in somewhat rosy colors by HBO; after all, both networks are owned by Time Warner. Still, it’s a pacy portrayal of the circumstances under which journalists worked in Iraq, with convincingĀ visual effects during the first attack on Baghdad. The two stars give engaging performances.

2002-U.S. Made for TV. 108 min. Color. Directed byĀ Mick Jackson. Teleplay: Robert Wiener, John Patrick Shanley, Richard Chapman, Timothy J. Sexton. Novel: Robert Wiener. Cast: Michael Keaton (Robert Wiener), Helena Bonham Carter (Ingrid Formanek), Joshua Leonard (Mark Biello), Lili Taylor, David Suchet, Bruce McGill… Michael Murphy.
