For Love of the Game

BILLY CHAPEL MUST CHOOSE BETWEEN THE WOMAN HE LOVES AND THE GAME HE LIVES FOR.

As star pitcher Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner) is playing a pivotal game, he starts thinking about the past years in his life, and his relationship with Jane Aubrey (Kelly Preston). Costner and baseball are inseparable. The stars are pretty bland, but I guess heā€™s the right actor for this sentimental flick that could have been moving and insightful if only the script had been good enough. It doesnā€™t introduce anything that makes the romance or Costnerā€™s problems particularly interesting. In the end, we need more if weā€™re going to reach for our hankies.Ā

1999-U.S. 137 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed byĀ Sam Raimi. Music: Basil Poledouris. Cast: Kevin Costner (Billy Chapel), Kelly Preston (Jane Aubrey), John C. Reilly (Gus Sinski), Jena Malone, Brian Cox, J.K. Simmons.Ā
