SOMETIMES WHAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR IS RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT IT.
New York fashion designer Melanie Carmichael (Reese Witherspoon) is getting married to the mayor’s son, but first she needs to go home to Alabama and have her current marriage annulled. Here’s a comedy that illustrates the differences between red and blue states; it tries to debunk misconceptions, but they are what fuels the movie. You will never be bored and you will never be surprised, but the actors liven things up. Witherspoon is great and Candice Bergen fun as the mayor (even if, in the end, she’s reduced to a silly cliché).
2002-U.S. 109 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Andy Tennant. Cast: Reese Witherspoon (Melanie Carmichael), Josh Lucas (Jake Perry), Patrick Dempsey (Andrew Hennings), Candice Bergen, Mary Kay Place, Fred Ward… Dakota Fanning.
