IT WAS THE PERFECT CRIME UNTIL SHE REFUSED TO BE THE PERFECT VICTIM.
Three kidnappers take Karen and William Jennings’s (Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend) daughter, but the couple figures out how to manipulate the trio. This tight little thriller gets a shot in the arm from having three different situations develop simultaneously, but the filmmakers donāt really know how to make the characters believable. Not even the parents come off very well; the hysterical free-for-all on the highway makes the ending even less credible. But Kevin Bacon gets to do what he perhaps does best ā play an utter scumbag.
