Time traveler Stuart Besser (Liev Schreiber) accidentally brings Leopold Mountbatten (Hugh Jackman), a duke who lived in New York in 1876, to 2001; Stuart’s ex-girlfriend (Meg Ryan) reluctantly befriends the visitor. This romantic comedy has a few funny sequences where the duke tries to understand this strange new world he’s in, but it suffers a bit from lazy writing and contrivances – the way Schreiber vanishes for a sizeable part of the film is not too convincing. Ryan is somewhat predictable, but Jackman feels like Jane Austen invented him.
