REMEMBER THE ALAMO.
Not all films with a troubled history turn out as disasters. This one took forever to get into theaters, but itās an earnest attempt to portray the 1836 massacre at the Alamo in a way that wasnāt done in the 1960 John Wayne movie. Instead of his swaggering we get Billy Bob Thornton as the ārealā Davy Crockett, the man, not the legendary figure. The filmmakers’ nuanced depiction of the people and the events includes a look at what the Mexicans were thinking as well. Impressively staged in many ways, but never quite as engrossing as one would hope for.
