dogmaTwo fallen angels (Matt Damon, Ben Affleck) try to come up with a way to sneak back into Heaven; Bethany Sloan (Linda Fiorentino) might just be the one to stop them. Kevin Smith sure is an interesting director. His movies are packed with tasteless sex jokes and profanity, but the dialogue has moments of insight and this film is more interested in open, theological discussions than those conservatives who tried to stop it. Still, it’s a wildly uneven experience, too protracted and not very funny. The cast is better, Alan Rickman in particular. Oh, and Alanis Morissette is God.

1999-U.S. 135 min. Color. Widescreen. Written and directed by¬†Kevin Smith. Cast: Matt Damon (Loki), Ben Affleck (Bartleby), Linda Fiorentino (Bethany Sloan), Alan Rickman, Chris Rock, Salma Hayek… Jason Lee, Kevin Smith, Alanis Morissette, Janeane Garofalo.

Trivia: Emma Thompson and Holly Hunter were allegedly considered for the part of God.
