The Tailor of Panama

IN A PLACE THIS TREACHEROUS, WHAT A GOOD SPY NEEDS IS A SPY OF HIS OWN.

tailorofpanamaAn espionage drama set in Panama after Noriega’s fall, with locations that some may find more exciting than the story itself. Still, the tale of a disgraced, British agent called Andrew Osnard (Pierce Brosnan) who is punished with a one-way ticket to the former dictatorship is admittedly an interesting con game with dangerous consequences. Director John Boorman tries his best to make the story really come alive, in spite of a few flaws. Geoffrey Rush is excellent as the pathetic tailor with a secret and Brosnan is just right as the spy, a very human James Bond.

2001-U.S.-Ireland. 109 min. Color. Widescreen. Produced and directed by John Boorman. Screenplay: Andrew Davies, John le Carré, John Boorman. Novel: John le Carré. Cinematography: Philippe Rousselot. Cast: Pierce Brosnan (Andrew Osnard), Geoffrey Rush (Harry Pendel), Jamie Lee Curtis (Louisa Pendel), Catherine McCormack, Brendan Gleeson, Leonor Varela… Harold Pinter, Daniel Radcliffe.
