Ingmar Bergman’s last TV movie is a return to Scenes From a Marriage (1973). Marianne and Johan (Liv Ullmann, Erland Josephson) have not seen each other for 30 years and their encounter is tender; these are people who have grown too old and wise to bicker about everything that was negative about their marriage. The film is a very emotional brush with the past, black as the night. The old Master has his moments but his work is merely an interesting epilogue. The acting is fine; Börje Ahlstedt and Julia Dufvenius are both splendid as two tempestuous musicians with a very damaged relationship.
